Having a rough go of it today. The cat apparently has some new schedule where he wakes between 4 and 5 am and wanders round the house making unhappy grumbly mews which are just loud enough to wake us. I usually grab him and kitty up at that point and toss them in the living room, shutting the door behind, which then starts the dance of him scratching at the door loudly and me getting out of bed and grabbing the spray bottle. This usually continues roughly every 15 to 20 minutes from 5.30 am till 7 or 8 or whenever it's time to get out of bed. Last night was especially bad since I was dreading the whole routine and when he first woke me an intense aggravation settled in and I was unable to drift back into sleep for the rest of the night. I ended up going into the living room and lounging on the couch with a little crochet so that I could monitor the door scratching and at least let M get some rest in peace without me popping out of bed every 15 minutes. I know cats are nocturnal creatures and I'm used to a little scuffle or door scratch here or there, but this past week and a half have been a new terrible experience where he just does not seem to let up. I'm considering looking into either a door for our kitchen so I can shut him in there where he'll still have access to his food, water and litter box; but will be on the opposite end of the house from our bedroom. Or maybe a door gate of some kind? Surely he'd climb it. Do any of you have any experience with this? Any tricks, ideas or recommendations? I'm running on about 3 hours sleep and a headache to boot as well as dealing with a difficult buyer on etsy - it's not such a pretty day, despite the weather.
